Noah’s Tangle

Another zentangle I did, this time as a gift for my baby sister Noah. She loves Emblem 3, but we had a hard time finding merch so I decided to craft this for her. I took step by steps of this (which will be recurring with my zentangle art).IMG_3166 IMG_3168 IMG_3169 IMG_3170 IMG_3175 IMG_3178 IMG_3237

She obviously was happy to have this, and I’m glad she liked it.

Mycah was very Handy

This is my first experience with Zentangle, and my first entry into my art journal. I sat down and had a completely different idea for this page (I wasn’t even going to zentangle!), but Mycah crawled into my lap and insisted that I trace his hands, so I just kind of went with that idea. I took pictures of the drawing as it progressed. I used a fine point, non-bleeding Sharpie for this, and loved it so much better than the Micron, and it is about a third of the cost.IMG_3041 IMG_3062  IMG_3064 IMG_3065 IMG_3067 IMG_3111

Guitar

Alright, this post is huge, and with good reason. This painting took me three weeks to complete. Partly because it was time consuming, but also because I could only work on it while my fiancé was at work or band rehearsal. He’s a musician, and one of the things that brought us together is a mutual love of music. This was his Christmas gift, and as you’ll see at the bottom of the post, his goofy butt loved it.

Step 2: Background of contrasting watercolorIMG_2821 IMG_2823 IMG_2824

Step 3: Fine lines done with a Micron fine point penIMG_2874 IMG_2915 IMG_2916

Step 4: Filling in the guitar with watercolorIMG_2944 IMG_2945 IMG_2946Step 5: Adding one of my favorite music quotes with a black SharpieIMG_3038

Finished and all together (before the quote was added)IMG_2947

Here’s my silly Gingerman after opening it IMG_3228

Karon

So typically, my artsy-fartsy stuff is inspired by specific people, and then gifted to said person.

I decoupaged this journal for Karon, because she’d been tossing around the idea of an art journal. She’s much more creative and talented than me, and I certainly hope she gets good use of this.  IMG_2878 IMG_2879For Karon’s birthday (only a few days after she received the above journal as a Christmas gift), I hand wrote her a 6 page letter. Not exactly the same kind of art I’ve been posting, but a dying art form no less. And that really is a wax seal on the envelope.IMG_3103IMG_3102

Competition

So this piece was actually done as an application for the Fun Committee at work (which I didn’t get into), and it was later insisted upon by the head of said committee that I enter the piece into a national company competition (which I didn’t place in, but was a great experience).

This is the company logo, done with watercolor on canvas. It’s the backdrop for the project.IMG_0303

Here is the final product. The company has five core values, and each value is symbolized by an element. I took each element and photographed my interpretation of it. On each of my photos, I added a lyric that I felt best encompassed that core value. From left to right:

Integrity/Cosmos: “Go with your heart and do the right thing” Do The Right Thing by George Strait

Respect/Earth: “We’re different colors and different creeds, and different people have different needs” People are People by Depeche Mode

Professionalism/Metal: “Action brings good fortune” Chapter 24 by Pink Floyd

Innovation/Air: “You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one” Imagine by John Lennon

Commitment/Fire: “You gotta work hard if you want any at all, nothing comes free” Work by Depeche Mode

More gifts

More gifts I’ve made for loved ones. So glad they put up with all my weird gift ideas.

Mum’s Whovian birthday cardIMG_1314Dad’s hot chocolate with homemade label. Makes six cups of cocoa. The label is manilla paper, and i used watercolor fingerprints of my youngest son to create the string of lights effect.IMG_3101My Mawmaw’s Christmas gift. She collects crosses, loves reds and anything rustic, and is constantly asking for pictures of the grandkids. I think I captured all of that with this gift. I used a stamp and ink set for the words on the frame, paper flowers in the bottom corner, hot-glued the ceramic/wrought iron cross onto the frame, and used crocheted lace ribbon as the hanger. IMG_3155
